Die Kantele ist vollkommen intuitiv spielbar. Die pentatonische oder diatonische Stimmung ermöglicht ein freies Spielen Es können ebenfalls einfache Melodien und Akkorde gespielt werden und das ohne Abgreifen der Saiten. Im Zusammenspiel bereichert sie Klanginstrumente wie Klangschalen, Monochorde und Tamburas. Die Kantele kann im Arm gehalten, auf den Körper gelegt oder als Tisch- beziehungsweise Bodeninstrument eingesetzt werden. Die Kantele ist besonders leicht, handlich und mobil einsetzbar.
